Samassekou was recruited and formed by JMG Academy in Mali and played in the African D1 Championship with Real Bamako before joining Europe at 19. After helping Mali to rank third in the under-20 world, he signed for Salzburg in August 2015 and first played for their Liefering club side in the Austrian second division.
