Goal from Nguyen Công Phuong brings Vietnam to quarter final in AFC

Vietnam are through to the AFC Asian Cup 2019 quarter-finals after beating Jordan 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in Sunday’s Round of 16 clash.
After being the better team all match, Vietnam finally put an end product to their purpose with a neat finish goal from Nguyen Công Phuong formed at JMG Soccer Academy in Vietnam.
It was the Jordanians who took the lead in the first half. Their advance was the courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance from Baha Abdel-Rahman given Jordan a 1-0 lead. At 6 minutes in second half, Vietnam’s domination was duly rewarded when JMG academician Nguyen Công Phuong scored. His goal came from sumptuous Nguyen Trong Hoàng cross from the right wing . The cross was magnificent, swerving past the defender but onto the path of Cong Phuong who met it sweetly first time, to send it past the helpless Jordan keeper and into the net.
With that proving to be the last of the scoring, the contest was then to be decided by penalties. A save from each goalkeeper and an unfortunate post for Jordan, Vietnam 4-2 advance to the quarter-finals. JMG Academicians Luong Xuan Truong and Trần Minh Vuong where among the penalty shooters for Vietnam
Vietnam will play either Japan or Saudi Arabia in its first Asian Cup quarterfinal since 2007.
